Clog Socks

I love clogs and my current favorites are Swedish Hasbeens. Very cute clogs – but not totally comfortable. I almost have to wear socks with them because the leather upper is pretty stiff.

I had an idea to knit a little “half sock” for summer clog wear. It would protect my foot but not be too hot.  Also, it would look cute when I wear shorts.

These were super quick and easy to knit. And a great way to use up the last bit of a skein of sock yarn.

I like the way that the ribbing peaks out from the clog. And, yep, that looks pretty cute with shorts!

Hurricane Harvey

This is a photo of the shelves at our grocery store. I guess everyone is getting ready for the hurricane. Expected to make landfall 24 hours from now, 150 miles from here.

Mission Espiritu Santo

Mission Espiritu Santo is located on the grounds of Goliad State Park. It’s a beautiful building and so well maintained by the Park Service.

We just returned from a fun, quick RV trip to Goliad State Park. It was August hot but enjoyable nonetheless.

Bulk Bin Spiced Nuts & Seeds

This spicy mixture is easy and delicious.

Mix 1/2 cup each raw almonds, cashews, walnuts and pistachios. Spray generously with olive oil. Season with one teaspoon each curry powder and chili powder. Salt to taste. Bake in a single layer 350 degrees for 4 minutes.

Mix 1/2 cup each raw pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pecans and raisins. Spray generously with olive oil. Season with one teaspoon each curry powder and chili powder. Add 2 tablespoons fennel seeds (the secret ingredient) and one teaspoon agave syrup. Salt to taste. Stir well. Add mixture to the above nuts. Bake nuts and seeds in a single layer 350 degrees for 4 minutes or until the raisins puff up.

Top the mixture with 1/2 cup large flake coconut. Bake for one minute. Exactly one minute. It will burn quickly so keep an eye on it. You want the coconut to be toasty brown.

Cool for 30 minutes. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Tasty!

Embellishing

I like to wear layers and quarter-zip sweaters are among my favorites. I frequently buy these from LL Bean. But I had an idea to make my own.

I purchased an inexpensive quarter-zip sweatshirt from Hanes ($14!). Cut off the ribbing at the sleeves and hem. Then added fabric binding and a couple other embellishments to make it my own.

I’m pleased with the result. Thinking I might make some more…
